Self-harm among teens is rising, especially in homes that seem stable. What drives this behavior, and how can schools and parents recognize and respond to early signs?

Self-harm among teens can stem from stress, anxiety, depression, or difficulty expressing emotions, even in seemingly stable homes. Signs include withdrawal, mood swings, unexplained injuries, or secretive behavior. Schools and parents can respond by fostering open communication, offering counseling support, and creating safe spaces for teens to share feelings without judgment.
